Topic Two: Pattern and Ornament - Assignment #3 Greyscale Repeat Pattern
We were shown a demo on how to create a repeat pattern by Professor Hudspeth and instructed to use the technique to create our own pattern. I've actually done this process before (I looked into it before, out of curiosity and wanting to make patterns myself) so I was quite excited for it.
The initial sketch. I went with a theme drawing inspiration from Eastern culture.
I did a quick digital mock up of what the print might look like. (As you can see, there was more variety in grays and few details I had planned prior to the final version. I had originally planned to tip the tails black, but when I did so in the digital pattern, I decided it was too strong an element when repeated and omitted it. I also left it black and white because I figured the printer was probably going to muddle the shades.)
The pattern all inked up nice to be copied and printed.
The resulting pattern. There was a bit of error in the copies made, cutting off the edges from all four sides, but it's to be expected, having to make so many copies. I still love the end result all the same.
