Topic One: The Tough Questions - Assignment #3
THIRD ASSIGNMENT: Open Project - Process
This is my process.
Detailing my initial idea with a quick sketch, figuring out positions and background elements.
Some quick feature and pose sketches on Paint Tool SAI.
Moved to Paint Tool SAI for a more solid sketch, laying down the bases of shading and lighting while figuring out details.
The digital sketch in full.
Setting down color, put the bases for the figures and foreground. Alternating between painting shadows on the statue and cleaning up the foliage.
Starting to cement where the lighting will be coming in, how it affects the statue. Scrapped the messier background and went for a foggier approach. Started to work on the river.
Just an outside shot featuring my hand. My phone camera leaves much to be desired.
Detail shot. Scrapped the heavy green tint in the water, went for a clearer reflection. Started painting shading on the leaves in the foreground.
Detail shot. Desaturated the statue for a more stone-like appearance rather than bronze. Added some fractures, hair-line cracks to its surface, and added more detail to the moss.
Nearly done! Finished rendering the foreground, added sunbeams, and strengthened the light a bit. Most notably, finished adding in foliage and trees to the background to create a fade-to-the-distance effect.
Detail shot. Decided to forego the outlines of the little ghost so that it fits the environment better, just keeping them on the inside to distinguish body parts. Gave it a little glow. At this stage, I gave the piece a fairly desaturated violet overlay.
Images should be medium and centered.
